The Chinese Science Writers Association

Introduction

The China Science Writers Association (CSWA) is a national, academic and nonprofit social organization voluntarily composed of science writers, together with science translators, critics, editors, artists, science and technology journalists, science and technology experts enthusiastic about science and technology writings, entrepreneurs, science and technology management cadres and relevant units.

In June 1978, China Association of Science and Technology held a national popular science writing Symposium in Shanghai, at that time more than 300 leaders from Science and Education press Community as well as Science writers and Editors, including Mao Yisheng, Hua Luogeng, Yu Guangyuan, Liu Shuzhou, Gao Shiji, Dong Chuncai, Wang Ziye, Wang Wenda, Wen Jize, Wang Mailin and Zhang Daoyi, initiated and established the Preparatory Committee for China Science and Technology Popularization and Writing Association.

In August, 1979, the 1st National People’s Congress was held in Beijing, and the China Science and Technology Popularization and Writing Association was formally established.

In June, 1990, the 3rd National People’s Congress was held in Beijing, and the China Science and Technology Popularization and Writing Association was renamed CSWA upon the approval by the China Association for Science and Technology.

Overall, CSWA had produced 6 councils successively, with Mao Yisheng, Gao Shiji, Dong Chuncai, Wen Jize, Cheng Siwei, Song Jian, Wang Mailin, Zhang Daoyi and Zhang Jingzhong serving as the honorary President successively, and Dong Jincai, Wen Jize, Ye Zhishan, Zhang Jingzhong, Liu Jiaqi allocation as a Chairman successively.

At present, CSWA has a total of 21 professional committees as well as 8 various writing centers, popular science writing bases and regional science popularization, writing associations have been established in 29 Provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities (except the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and the Tibet Autonomous Region), with the membership at national level as well as provincial and municipal levels are 3,300 and 3 million, respectively.

Members of CSWA include individuals, students and units.

The supreme authority of CSWA belongs to the National People’s Congress, which is held every four years.

Under the Association are the Council (a leading body elected by the National People’s Congress) and a Standing Council (elected by the Council), which contains a chairman, several vice chairmen and 1 secretary general.

A secretariat is established under the Association, and it is composed by a number of full-time staff.
